The Blox Public Art Downtown Calgary Beautification Project

The BLOX Public Art Beautification Project is an initiative aimed at transforming Calgary's downtown urban spaces into vibrant, welcoming environments through art. As part of this project, we were selected to design and paint two large planters that will be placed in one of 21 predetermined locations. These planters, measuring 3 feet tall and 41 inches in diameter at their widest point, serve as both functional urban infrastructure and artistic statements.

Working closely with the CUPS team, our goal was to transform their space into a warm, welcoming environment where families and children can feel at home. We’ll take you behind the scenes to see how the murals came together—from early sketches to the final brushstrokes—and hear directly from the staff about the impact of these murals on their community. Frida's Coffee Home - Mural

Frida’s Coffee Home, nestled in Calgary’s West Village Towers, collaborated on this mural project to highlight the café’s unique Mexican roots. Founded by Frida Murillo and Zaheen Hamidan, the coffee shop embraces a vision of authentic Mexican hospitality with an ambition to become an internationally recognized brand. The mural, designed to capture the spirit of San Miguel de Allende, showcases the town’s colorful facades and colonial architecture, infusing the café with a vibrant cultural essence.
